A Magnificent House With Historic Significance
This beautiful 6,221 sqft house of the original Gebbie/Bellinger Estate currently sits on 2.9 acres of land, which include its original gardens and 270 feet of waterfront in the Magnolia Springs area of Chautauqua Lake. It is a magnificent 4-story structure with a full basement and walk-up attic. There are 23 major rooms; 8 Bedrooms, 6 full Bathrooms, Kitchen, Butler’s Pantry, Dining Room, Living Room, Study, Office, an enclosed Garden Porch and two screened Lake Porches. It has four fireplaces on the first floor and two stairways; one in the servant’s wing and one in the main hall.
The house is extremely symmetric, built in a general “H” pattern. The right wing in the picture above was the servant’s wing with maid’s quarters above, and kitchens and chauffer’s quarters below. The original house had a separate 7-car garage which is now part of a neighboring parcel, so this 24′ x 34′ 2-story garage was added in 2016, built on original retaining walls which existed next to house.
Chautauqua Lake, NY
In far western New York just above Jamestown, Chautauqua Lake is sometimes considered the “thumb” of the finger lakes due to its NW-SE orientation. It is one of the highest navigable lakes in North America at 1,308 ft, held constant by a dam in Jamestown at the mouth of the Chadakoin River. The lake is approximately, 17 miles long, 2 miles wide (max) with 41 miles of lakeshore and 13,000 acres of surface area. It is best known for its world-class muskellunge fishing and the famous Chautauqua Institution.
